Smashing the Stigma

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and it serves as a crucial period for individuals, communities, and organizations to come together in support of mental well-being. Established in 1949 by Mental Health America (MHA), this month-long observance aims to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and promote mental health resources for individuals struggling with various conditions. It is an opportunity to educate, advocate, and provide support for those in need.

The City of Montgomery has been committed to these efforts since 2022, providing community presentations, an annual Mental Health Fair, and most importantly, partnering with Care Solace to provide a central hub of care for all mental health needs. With a network of over 560,000 licensed mental health providers and substance use treatment services, Care Solace helps residents find the right help at the right time, regardless of insurance coverage. This service is offered to residents at no cost.

The City is committed to not just reducing the stigma surrounding mental health issues but has adopted the “Smashing the Stigma” mantra as the platform to continue this very important work.

This May let’s make a collective effort to recognize the importance of mental well-being, support those in need, and continue the conversation beyond just one month.
