The City of Montgomery values the beauty and tranquility of Hopewell Cemetery and periodically reviews best practices for grounds maintenance and safety from local cemeteries and professional organizations.
As a result of this review, several changes have been made to the policy regarding the decoration of gravesites and the placement of monuments. To preserve the aesthetic beauty of the cemetery and to prevent injuries to maintenance staff and those who frequently walk the cemetery, the following items will be prohibited beginning July 1:
- Shepherd Hooks used for hanging baskets
- Solar lights
- Temporary plastic vases
If you currently have any of these items placed at Hopewell Cemetery, please remove them at your earliest convenience. Beginning Monday, July 8, city staff will begin removing any remaining items, which will be available to be collected by appointment.
