Memorial Day Remembrance

On Memorial Day, Monday, May 27, the City of Montgomery invites you to pause to remember those who have died in military service.

We invite you to join Master Sergeant Richard Schnitz (USAF Retired), who will play Taps at Hopewell Cemetery at 3:00 pm. Dick served in the US Air Force for 24 years. During his military career, he maintained and flew on C-130 cargo aircraft while serving in the Vietnam War. His military career also took Dick to Taiwan, Japan, the Philippines, and Germany.

Dick began playing Taps in 2021 outside City Hall as a tribute to the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. He is part of a network of people known as Taps Across America, who play on Memorial Day at 3:00 pm. Dick will now perform at Hopewell Cemetery to accommodate a larger crowd.
