Blue Bird - Montgomery Mental Health Initiative LogoThe City of Montgomery is honored to partner again with the Church of the Saviour for a powerful and compelling panel discussion on understanding addiction, the challenges in recognizing it, treatment and recovery. Four courageous individuals will come together to share their stories of struggle, perseverance, and healing. This emotionally charged event will provide a rare, unfiltered look into the complex realities of addiction—not only from those who have lived through it but also from a parent who has watched their children suffer through its grip.

Panelists

JB Whitehouse

J.B. Whitehouse is a sober man in recovery. Since 2012, J.B. has worked in the behavioral healthcare treatment field in both California and Ohio. J.B. is a regular speaker at the University of Cincinnati and has been featured on several television programs, news articles, and nationally syndicated documentary programs about his sobriety and recovery-based endeavors. After getting sober in 2011, J.B. has worked in almost every capacity in the treatment field, except those that require clinical or doctoral licenses, and has dedicated his life to helping those who find themselves in the same position he once was in. J.B. currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Ohio Community Health, a substance use and co-occurring mental health disorder treatment facility in Cincinnati.

Hannah Schilling

Guided by her own journey through substance use and mental health recovery, Hannah Schilling brings both personal insight and professional expertise to every role. A Certified Peer Recovery Supporter and Peer Support Supervisor with multiple public health credentials, she began her career coordinating substance use treatment at Good Samaritan Hospital before moving into peer support leadership with Hamilton County and Colerain Township Quick Response Teams, helping people in crisis find hope and connection. Today, as a Community Outreach Coordinator at Hamilton County Public Health, she creates programs and delivers training that makes harm-reduction strategies easily understood, fully integrated, and widely available across the county.

Matt Stull

Matt Stull, born and raised in Northern Kentucky, will share his lived experience on the depths of alcoholism and drug addiction, where it took him, and how he now lives a full life. Matt has worked in Recovery and Mental Health for the last 6 years and uses his lived experience to help others find recovery.

 

 

Sandy Corrado

Sandy Corrado will share about her journey dealing with her son’s addiction to drugs and alcohol for 16 years. She has come to realize how gravely addiction affects family members. Sandy now co-leads a support group for parents and family members to help them understand the disease of addiction and how to stay mentally, emotionally, and spiritually healthy while still loving the addict without enabling.
