School’s out, you’ve most likely already been hitting up the Montgomery Pool, and perhaps your children are even enrolled in some of the many summer camps and activities the city provides. Summer is certainly a great time to live in Montgomery. With so many activities, festivals and restaurants, it can sometimes be hard to know which ones to choose on a given evening. Some of my fondest summer memories in Montgomery include walking to get ice cream with the kids, getting fresh produce at the Montgomery Farmer’s Market, attending our annual neighborhood picnic and seeing the kids play in the park long after sunset, lazy afternoons at the pool, and attending the 4th of July parade and festival each year. All these memories are a part of what makes the warm weather months such a special time in Montgomery for our family. I imagine some of these are the same for you.
These events, activities, and annual rhythms are all a part of what make up the charming culture of our community. When my family moved back to Montgomery, several years ago now, I remember looking at various communities, but always coming back to Montgomery because of the lifestyle it could provide for me and my family. Much like many of you, I fell in love with the walkability of our city, the beauty of our parks, the access to some of the region’s best restaurants and establishments, the Montgomery Farmer’s Market, and the many signature festivals that Montgomery produces with the help of hundreds of resident volunteers each year. Montgomery is unique in its offerings. Our community is something to be proud of, and I see so many of you taking pride in it as well.
The City Council works hard to preserve Montgomery’s charming cultural lifestyle, while at the same time embracing new and exciting opportunities that benefit the community, like Montgomery Quarter. Through careful planning and community engagement, we work to ensure that Montgomery’s rich heritage remains a vibrant part of everyday life.
As we wind down the month of June, we are gearing up for some of the City’s biggest summer events, BAMSO Concerts, the 50th anniversary of the 4th of July Parade and festival, and of course Bastille Day! I hope to see many of you there, and I’d love you to tell me some of your own favorite things to do in Montgomery this summer!
