Montgomery continues to be recognized for its tree-lined streets, welcoming neighborhoods, and vibrant parks. The Environmental Advisory Commission (EAC) is committed to preserving these strengths while preparing our community for tomorrow’s environmental challenges.
Why Resilience Matters
- Changing weather patterns: Heavier rains and hotter summers are becoming more common across southwest Ohio.
- Energy costs rising: Families feel the strain of higher utility bills, making conservation even more important.
- Community well-being: A greener city isn’t just attractive; it protects health, reduces stress, and strengthens neighborhood pride.
Simple Steps Residents Can Take
- Plant smart for the future: Choose native trees and shrubs that withstand heat and pests. They require less watering and support local pollinators.
- Cool your home naturally: Shade trees can reduce summer cooling costs. Consider planting
- Conserve water: Install rain barrels, mulch garden beds, and adjust sprinklers to water lawns early in the morning.
- Reduce waste at the source: Compost kitchen scraps and donate gently used goods.
- Choose renewable options: Check with Duke Energy and other providers about green energy programs that allow
households to opt into renewable sources.
How You Can Be Involved
Small, consistent actions add up when embraced across the city. The EAC encourages residents to:
- Volunteer for seasonal planting, One Stop Drop recycling day, cardboard recycling or clean-up days.
- Share ideas with the Commission on new initiatives for Montgomery.
Together, we can ensure Montgomery remains not only a beautiful place to live today but also a resilient and sustainable community for future generations.
